Testimonials

Catalina & Dylan

“Clara was our wedding photographer and we are beyond thrilled how beautiful the photos came out. We had our wedding ceremony at cop cot in Central Park in 96 degree weather sweating our butts off but Clara was able to capture beautiful moments for us regardless. Can’t wait to print out and frame them. Thank you for capturing one of the most important moments in my life.”

Whether you are planning a private ceremony in Central Park, a City Hall wedding followed by portraits around Manhattan, or an intimate celebration with your closest family and friends, your elopement deserves to be documented with care, intention, and a deep understanding of New York City.

I’m Clara Alave, a NYC elopement photographer specializing in intimate weddings, destination elopements, and small celebrations throughout New York City.

Central Park is one of the most requested locations for NYC elopements because it offers a variety of romantic settings within one iconic destination.

I have photographed elopements and portraits throughout Central Park, including:

Why Choose a New York City Elopement?

New York City is one of the most iconic places in the world to celebrate your love.

Couples travel from across the United States and around the globe to exchange vows here because NYC offers something truly unique: history, architecture, nature, diversity, and endless possibilities for creating a wedding experience that feels personal.

An elopement in New York City can be as simple as the two of you exchanging vows together, or it can include your closest family and friends.

I have photographed NYC elopements ranging from intimate celebrations with only the couple, including occasions where I served as their witness, to beautiful gatherings with up to 25 guests.

Every elopement is meaningful because every couple has their own reason for choosing this experience.

City Hall Elopement Photography

Many couples choose New York City Hall for their legal ceremony and then celebrate with portraits around the city.

Whether your City Hall wedding is just the two of you or includes family and friends, I can document:

  • Getting ready moments
  • The ceremony
  • Your first moments as a married couple
  • Family portraits
  • Romantic portraits around NYC

For couples who need a witness, I have even photographed elopements where I served as their witness and signed the marriage paperwork.

A Documentary Approach With Natural Guidance

My photography style combines documentary storytelling with gentle direction.

I want you to feel like yourselves while also creating beautiful portraits that represent this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

During your elopement, I photograph:

  • Emotional ceremony moments
  • Rings and personal details
  • Florals and meaningful accessories
  • Candid interactions
  • Romantic portraits
  • Environmental images that showcase New York City

I love creating a balance between intimate close-up photographs and wider images that show the incredible locations where you chose to celebrate.

Your photographs should not only show what you looked like—they should bring you back to how the city felt on your wedding day.

Every couple has a different vision for their wedding day.

  • Family portraits
  • Group photographs
  • Meaningful guest interactions

FAQ

How much does elopement photography cost in NYC?

Every elopement is unique, which is why my collections are designed to fit the experience you're planning.
Elopement photography collections begin at $600 for short New York City Hall ceremonies with portrait coverage.
For couples planning a longer celebration, I offer customized collections based on the length of your wedding day, the number of locations you'd like to visit, and whether you're including getting ready, family portraits, or multiple portrait destinations throughout New York City.

What is an elopement?

An elopement is an intentionally intimate wedding focused on your experience rather than a large celebration. For some couples, it means exchanging vows with just the two of them. Others invite a small group of family and friends to share the moment.
I've photographed everything from private ceremonies with only the couple present to intimate weddings with up to 25 guests. Every elopement is unique, and there is no "right" way to celebrate. Whether you're planning a quiet morning in Central Park or a City Hall ceremony followed by portraits around New York City, your wedding day should reflect what feels meaningful to you.

Where can we have our elopement in New York City?

New York City offers an incredible variety of locations for intimate weddings.
Some of the most popular ceremony locations I photograph include:

Ladies Pavilion
Wagner Cove
Cop Cot
Belvedere Castle
City Hall
Restaurants

After the ceremony, many couples continue with portraits throughout the city. Some favorite locations include Bethesda Terrace, Bethesda Fountain, The Mall, The Naumburg Bandshelll, Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, classic NYC streets with yellow taxis, subway stations, and neighborhoods that hold special meaning.
If you're unsure which location fits your vision, I'm happy to help you choose one that matches your style, guest count, and timeline.

Do we need an elopement planner?

Many of my couples work with experienced NYC elopement planners who coordinate the entire day, including timelines, permits, vendor recommendations, ceremony logistics, and backup plans in case of weather.
If you're planning your elopement on your own, I can still help with photography-related guidance. I can recommend ceremony locations, suggest portrait routes, provide timeline recommendations, and share trusted local vendors I've worked with. While I don't replace a professional planner, I'm always happy to help make your photography experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Can you photograph our New York City Hall wedding?

Absolutely.
City Hall weddings have become one of my favorite ways to document intimate celebrations. Whether you're having a simple civil ceremony or combining your marriage license appointment with portraits around Manhattan, I'll guide you through creating beautiful images that celebrate this exciting chapter.
Many couples choose to include getting ready at their hotel, the City Hall ceremony, family photos, and portraits afterward in locations like the Financial District, Brooklyn Bridge Park, or Central Park.
Every City Hall wedding has its own story, and I love helping couples turn a courthouse wedding into an unforgettable experience.

Can you be our witness if we're eloping alone?

Yes.
I've been honored to serve as a witness for couples choosing to marry with no guests present. If your ceremony requires a witness, I'm happy to sign your marriage license while documenting one of the most meaningful moments of your lives.
Many couples traveling from another state or another country appreciate having someone they already know and trust as part of their intimate ceremony.

Do you photograph family photos during an elopement?

Of course.
If your loved ones are joining your celebration, I always make time for family portraits. Before your wedding day, I'll ask if there's a specific family photo list you'd like so we can make sure everyone important is included.
After family portraits are complete, we usually transition into a relaxed portrait session focused on just the two of you.

What is your photography style?

My photography combines documentary storytelling with natural direction.
During your ceremony, I work quietly and respectfully, allowing genuine moments and emotions to unfold naturally without interruption.
During portraits, I'll gently guide you with prompts and movement instead of stiff poses. This creates images that feel authentic while helping you look your best.
I also love creating a complete visual story by photographing everything from closeup details like rings and bouquets to environmental portraits that highlight the beauty and energy of New York City.

We aren't comfortable in front of the camera. Can you help?

Absolutely.
Most of my couples tell me they feel nervous about being photographed, especially if they've never had professional photos taken before.
You don't need modeling experience. Throughout your portrait session, I'll guide you naturally while encouraging genuine interactions between the two of you. My goal is to create a relaxed experience where you can simply enjoy your wedding day together.
Many of my past couples have shared in their reviews that they appreciated my calm personality, patience, and ability to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera.

We are traveling from another country. Can you help us?

Absolutely.
Many of the couples I photograph travel to New York City from around the United States and around the world to celebrate their wedding.
I understand that planning an elopement from another location can feel overwhelming. I'll help answer photography-related questions, provide recommendations when I can, and guide you through the process so you know what to expect before arriving in New York.
Whether you're visiting for a few days or making your elopement part of a larger vacation, I'll help you create a photography experience that feels relaxed and memorable.

How long should we book photography coverage?

Every elopement is different.
Some couples only need coverage for the ceremony and a short portrait session, while others want their full story documented, including getting ready, first look, the ceremony, family portraits, multiple portrait locations, transportation around the city, and even dinner afterward.
During our consultation, we'll discuss your plans and create a photography timeline that gives you enough time to fully enjoy your day without feeling rushed.

When will we receive our photos?

I know how exciting it is to relive your wedding day.

Within 48 hours, you'll receive a selection of sneak peek images that you can enjoy and share with family and friends.

Your complete online gallery will be professionally edited and delivered within two weeks of your elopement, allowing you to revisit every meaningful moment while the memories are still fresh.

Do you offer wedding albums and wall art?

Yes. Your wedding photos deserve to be enjoyed beyond a screen.
I offer professionally designed heirloom wedding albums, fine art prints, and custom wall art so you can preserve your memories for years to come. There's something special about holding your wedding story in your hands or seeing your favorite portrait displayed in your home every day.
Many couples choose to include an album that tells the complete story of their New York City elopement, from getting ready and exchanging vows to family portraits and romantic moments throughout the city. Others love creating statement wall art featuring iconic NYC backdrops like Bethesda Terrace, Central Park, or the city skyline.
Your online gallery also makes it easy to order professional-quality prints, so you can share your favorite images with family and friends or create meaningful gifts for loved ones.
If you're not sure which option is right for you, I'm happy to help you design an album or choose artwork that best fits your home and style.

Do you only photograph Central Park elopements?

Not at all.
While Central Park is one of my most requested locations, I photograph elopements throughout New York City.
Whether you're getting married at City Hall, exchanging vows in another park, celebrating at a private venue, or exploring the city's iconic neighborhoods for portraits, I'm always excited to document your story wherever it takes place.

What happens after we inquire?

Once you reach out, we'll schedule a time to discuss your vision, wedding plans, and photography coverage.
I'll answer your questions, help determine the amount of coverage that best fits your day, and explain the booking process.
Once your contract is signed and your retainer is received, your date is officially reserved. From there, I'll be available to help with timeline suggestions, photography planning, and preparing for your NYC elopement so you can feel confident and excited leading up to your wedding day.
